Builder Series #35: House of Funk x Average Sunday
Hiro-San // Kenya Filter coffee brings Beanz to mainstream consumers in Vancouver, BC
It has been a few months since Average Sunday had our last brand collaboration, a limited-edition Chiran Shincha tea with our friends at O5, a rare tea bar in Vancouver, BC. Last week we released a special product in partnership with a new collaborator - House of Funk Roasting Co., a specialty coffee roaster and brewery based in the Pacific Northwest. We sought out House of Funk for a few reasons:
Their packaging is dope - they use these retro canisters to store whole beans
They source sustainable beans, a big plus for us and alignment with our own core values
They make an unbelievable product, one of our personal favourites for a Sunday brew
When I spoke with their marketing team earlier in the summer, they were intrigued by the Azuki pfp artwork by Steamboy and the project I was working on to bring The Adventures of Hiro-San, my recently released graphic novel and Beanz origin story, to life. The partnership would include artwork from the Average Sunday brand assets and a QR code on the canister to share our story with House of Funk customers.
Early on when my Co-Creator and I started Average Sunday, this was the kind of collaboration we always envisioned - a reputable and large company with an established fan base providing eyeballs and consumers for our fun storytelling, artwork and of course, curated music. This is our small way of expanding the Azuki universe into the web2 world, one coffee at a time.
While our previous collaborations with Harken Coffee and O5 Tea have been available in their own retail locations, this is our first collaboration with product distribution in multiple cafes and retailers. Hiro-San // Kenya Filter can be found at House of Funk Tap House and Nomad Espresso Bar in North Vancouver, BC; Funk Coffee Bar and Novella Coffee Bar in Vancouver, BC; and Kaizen & Coffee in San Mateo, CA. It is available as a limited release through House of Funk’s online store.
