Earlier this year before the Azuki Garden Tour Shanghai event, a community brand started posting content and giveaways for an extensive lineup of Azuki-inspired apparel and a very cute kigu spirit Beanz. Later, we learned more about the founders and roots of the brand and how they envision a physical/virtual brand coming into existence within the Azuki universe. I caught up with Head of Marketing, CCISAROBOT, to dig deeper into NXTLABS founding journey and what we can expect over the coming quarters. Read on.
NXTLABS came on the scene in a major way just before Azuki Shanghai, what can you tell us about the team and their experience within and outside web3?
The founder of NXTLABS, SF , is a prominent figure within the Azuki community, known for his unwavering support through both good and challenging times. Additionally, SF is the owner of a New York-based fashion company. His passion for Azuki artistry and our company's strengths were instrumental in the creation of NXTLABS.
Our team at NXTLABS is comprised of diverse talents spanning fashion design, e-commerce operations, marketing, and strategy, drawing from expertise in both Web 3 and Web 2 domains. For instance, I oversee the marketing efforts for NXTLABS across both Web 3 and Web 2 platforms, as well as managing marketing for three other fashion brands operating within the Web 2 space.
How would you describe the NXTLABS brand?
NXTLABS embodies the essence of the most iconic IPs in the digital realm, creating a synergy between streetwear fashion and digital artistry. Beyond delivering premium high-fashion products, we extend an invitation for individuals to join our digital community, offering a platform to immerse themselves in the digital world. Our comprehensive rewards program not only enhances the NXT experience but also opens avenues for genuine financial growth. What can supporters and Azuki community members expect in the coming quarters?
Since our launch on March 1st, we have been dedicated to refining our products based on sales data and community feedback. Right now, our product lines consist of two main categories: the Azuki collection and our mainline, which offers essential everyday wear.
For the Azuki community, we continue to introduce high-quality fashion merchandise featuring Azuki's unique artistry. We are actively expanding our Azuki PFP collections through partnerships with community members to reach a broader audience. For instance, we recently collaborated with Dingaling, Dr.Hash“Wesley”, and Illen for the Azuki Art Contest co-hosted with CreatorDAO, with the winning artworks set to be featured in our Fall 2024 season collection. We are committed to bringing the Azuki community together and expanding its reach to a wider audience in the Web 2 space.
You launched a PBT sweatshirt for the Azuki Shanghai event. Can you tell us what it was like developing a physical product that has an onchain version?
This experience of launching PBT fashion merch is new for everyone on our team. From product design to production to NFT design, we have collaborated closely with the Azuki team to ensure that our products will impress and provide a unique experience, bridging the virtual and physical realms.
I believe NXTLABS is the first community brand to use the Azuki trademark in a commercial way. Is there anything you can share about what it was like working with the Azuki on your collection?
Working with the Azuki team and community has been a unique experience compared to our usual interactions in the web 2 space. The support and willingness to help from the Azuki family have been exceptional, and we want to express our sincere gratitude to everyone for their support.
Besides the dope apparel your team has created, you have a gamified section of your website called NXT CITY. What was the inspiration for this and what can collectors expect for participating?
NXT CITY is dedicated to delivering an engaging digital experience to our members through web 3 approaches. Each purchase of a physical product will automatically add a corresponding digital item to the member's account in NXT CITY, enabling them to earn reward points. Additionally, members can accrue points through daily check-ins, rankings, and other activities. These points can then be used to participate in lucky draws, gift card exchanges, airdrops, and various other exciting benefits.
We have just confirmed our recent partnership with a professional web design company. This collaboration will enable us to optimize the NXT CITY website and introduce new and exciting features to enhance the overall user experience in the near future.
What’s one piece of advice you would give to people looking to build with their Azuki or Beanz IP?
Here at NXT CITY, we firmly believe that one plus one is greater than two. We welcome community members who are passionate about building something extraordinary to reach out to us.
